Leeds City CouncilLeeds City Council – Women's Conference - A Changing World

The current economic climate has triggered uncertainty, instability and insecurity about the future within many organisations – especially local government. With this in mind, Leeds City Council themed the annual Women's Conference to focus on 'A Changing World' to encourage people to think about their future, expected and unexpected changes and how to explore hidden strengths and talents and seek future employment opportunities.

Using our team of actors, Green Room Training created a playlet which was set in 'The Enchanted City Council' which enabled the audience to engage emotionally with the reality of confronting change, explore practical strategies to move through change and to think about personal skills, talents and strengths and the great wide world should they have to seek employment elsewhere.

A few thoughts from Ann Briggs, City Development Directorate, Leeds City Council

Speech"Green Room Training ran a session at the Women's Conference for City Development Directorate which was themed A Changing World. Staff at Leeds City Council are like all government employees, seeing constant change and not sure what the future holds for them.

The "sketch" about Joe was really entertaining and thought provoking, helping staff to relate to Joe's experiences and perhaps empathise with her. Ending the session with a challenge to do a personal SWOT analysis really got people thinking and the majority of people left the morning with a buzz and feeling that perhaps they can turn a negative into a positive."

Lloyds Banking GroupLloyds Banking Group Winter Conference 2010 - The times they are a changing...

The key purpose of the Lloyds Banking Group CMSI Winter Conference was to review the successes of 2010 and to understand what needed to be achieved in 2011by the department. The year ahead posed many challenges and many situations where motivation and commitment from the teams would be tested and potentially eroded.

Working in close partnership with the senior management team, Green Room Training were invited to design and deliver a number of sessions throughout the conference to trigger discussions around positive visualisation and to create the departments own future history based around the challenging current climate of UK banking.

Using a team of talented musical actors, a playlet was produced and performed throughout the day which enabled participants to then engage in meaningful personal reflection and team discussions to understand and commit to proactive habits to breathe life and drive into the visualised future history.

A few words from Steve Drew – Strategy and Integration, Change Management & Service Introduction

Speech"Many thanks to the team from The Green Room for contributing to the great success of our Winter Conference. The positive approach, with the excellent singing, dancing and inclusion of the audience has had wonderful feedback from all of my team. You have a great team to work with who generate energy in a room and create a wonderful team spirit. Even members of the team who could not attend due to the bad weather have heard about how successful the day was.

The motivation and passion shown by all of you was incredible and set the culture for the day from the very first rendition of that great song. Thank you all so much and I really hope that I have the opportunity of working with you all again in the future. Our biggest challenge is how we top this next time!"

First Transpennine ExpressFirst Transpennine Express - Tocopoly

The Fleet Department at First Transpennine Express considered the evolving business environment and recognised some shifting dynamics that its people were unlikely to expect, and the impact that these changes could potentially have on the successful operation of the franchise. In response to this, the Engineering Management team wanted to develop a highly innovative concept for a team development day to allow people to define the nature of the shifting dynamics for themselves, and to establish the sorts of behaviours which would succeed in the changing environment.

Sticking rigorously to client preference for 'no projectors or presentations', Green Room Training worked collaboratively with the senior management team to create an exciting giant size board game, specifically designed for FTPE – with a working title of "Tocopoly"! Through innovative and detailed design, the game revealed and explored the future operational challenges facing the department and used actors to bring alive the behavioural barrier of adapting to changing working environment. The day itself brought together over 20 people, who participated with great enthusiasm and through playing a good old fashioned board game, recognised the importance of taking both individual and team responsibility for a successful future.

A Few thoughts from Paul Staples – Commercial Fleet Director

SpeechGreen Room Training was introduced to help us to devise a team development day. They were involved in the initial concept development for the day, and joined us as we evolved the concept into a firm plan. They brought a combination of innovation and pragmatism to the project, helping us through creative blocks and advising us on how to elicit the behavioural responses that we needed from our team. Their innate sense of what makes people tick shone through, and working in collaboration with another facilitator introduced us to a range of innovative activity which, put bluntly, we would not have been able to devise for ourselves and, On the day, Green Rooms' team of actors had clearly been well-briefed, and were able to give our team a range of realistic role play scenarios in which to test themselves. For FTPE, the day was a great success. The team emerged challenged, but not shocked, and served as a springboard for our engagement with our staff through the coming year. Many individuals remarked on the degree to which the day exceeded their view on 'benchmark' for team development sessions. I would recommend Green Room Training to any organisation seeking to take people on a self-development journey rather than simply 'imposing' training or 'briefing'."

Soroptimist InternationalSoroptimist International - Because we are worth it!

Soroptimist International is a worldwide organisation for women in management and professions, working through service projects to advance human rights and the status of women.

The Presidential Management Team of Soroptimists, Yorkshire chose "Because we are worth it!" as the strapline for their forthcoming year in office to inspire a new way of thinking and doing. Green Room Training was invited to design and deliver an event for the Presidential team to work together and explore how - "Because we are worth it!" could be developed into a tangible working plan with clear direction and goals. Our team of actors and singers (minus Cheryl Cole!) created a day with the ingredients of humour, music, sensitivity, voxpops (voice of the people) and integrity, to help the team recognise both individual and team strengths and how these can be used powerfully and passionately during their forthcoming year in office.

A few thoughts from Sylvia Wilson – President for Yorkshire 2011-2012

SpeechWhat a refreshing approach! A remarkably versatile and talented team gave us a day carefully tailored to the needs of our organisation. Both entertaining and thought provoking, and identified many relevant issues to address. Not just a great day, an amazing day!!"
